Barbara Jordan Elementary Sidewalk Repairs

The Board of Directors for Big Oaks MUD has identified the sidewalk collapse behind Barbara Jordan Elementary school and has been working diligently with the District’s Engineer and contractor to uncover the issues that led to the collapse of the sidewalk as well as a solution for repair.  We have completed boring samples and geo technical reports to ensure it is repaired in the safest and most thorough way possible. Although the process has taken longer than anticipated, we had to be sure we as a Board were mindful of the cost as well as the stability of the repair.

The repairs will be starting the week of September 26th.  By the 29th the contractor will have installed temporary construction fencing blocking off the bottom portion of the school property to access to the site.  On October 3rd they will begin removing the damaged sidewalk along with part of the slope.  There will be heavy equipment onsite starting October 3rd and we ask that no pedestrians walk that side of the trail while the repairs are in process.  In addition, there will be dump trucks throughout the day removing excavated dirt and transporting it to the District’s Sewer Plant Site.  These trucks will travel from the school on Bellaire back towards Westmoor.  Weather permitting, the entire project should  be completed in about two weeks.
