Change to Best Trash from GFL for Trash Collection

EDITED ON 2/17/2026

This announcement affects all residents in West Oaks Village and Twin Oaks Village.

Big Oaks M.U.D. is excited to announce a new partnership with Best Trash for all of its Waste and Recycling needs effective March 1, 2026. This partnership with Best Trash continues to emphasize Big Oaks District’s focus on excellent customer service to all of our residents through our various consultants.

The change from GFL to Best Trash was much needed. Many factors were taken into consideration on this decision:

  • Reliable and consistent service: Best Trash dedicates a 3-person crew for every truck ensuring safe and efficient collection every time. All collection will be manual. Best Trash trucks do not use the mechanical lift arms used by GFL.
  • Convenience for Residents: Best Trash provides personalized service with curbside collection of bags and bulky items every service day as well as assistance to residents who are unable to place trash or recycle cans at curbside. Valet services for the handicapped or elderly residents can be requested by emailing support@besttrashtexas.com.
  • Comprehensive Recycle: Best Trash recycling now includes pick up of glass, making it easier for residents to dispose of more materials responsibly and make for a greener community. Please refer to the recycle guidelines for more information.
  • Community Safety and Accessibility: Best Trash 3-man crews can handle those hard-to-reach pickup spots in cul-de-sacs and around parked cars ensuring that no trash goes uncollected.

Trash and recycling days for West Oaks Village and Twin Oaks Village will remain the same – every Wednesday and Saturday (with exceptions for Holidays) so there isn’t a change to the service schedule for our residents.

Here are some important dates for our residents to know:

GFL (formerly WCA) will begin picking up their branded recycle carts and trash carts the week of February 22, 2026.

  • GFL and WCA Recycle carts will be collected by GFL on their last Recycle service day on Wednesday, February 25th.
  • GFL and WCA Trash Carts will be collected by GFL on their last Trash service day on Saturday, February 28th.
  • Please leave your GFL and WCA carts out on the curbside if you miss these days as GFL will be collecting all remaining GFL and WCA carts between February 25th to March 3rd.
  • Best Trash will deliver new trash and recycle carts on Wednesday, February 25th and Thursday, February 26th.
  • New collection service with Best Trash will begin Wednesday, March 4th, 2026. Collection hours will remain the same.

Project Lifesaver Program

The Fort Bend County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office took the first step toward bringing the Project Lifesaver program to our contract areas. Project Lifesaver is a free wearable device provided by the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office that helps reunite families with loved ones who may wander.

The program supports non-verbal children with autism and seniors living with Alzheimer’s in Fort Bend County. First responders can detect the device from up to 2 miles away during ground searches and up to 8 miles away with air support, allowing for faster and safer recoveries.

Winter Storm Conditions – Service

Attention Residents,

Services for Bay City, Wharton, Matagorda, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Harris, Montgomery and Waller County have been restored, for all Houston area sites, effective February 18, 2021. As always, the safety of our residents, crews and equipment are our priority, and we look forward to providing your service. With services being suspended Monday-Wednesday, we are anticipating higher-than-normal volumes being placed out at the curb and expecting some delays. In addition, the forecast is still forecasting cold, rainy conditions, but roads appear to be passable.

We continue to monitor all conditions and may have later than normal rollouts of our crews Thursday, morning. Our office and facilities remain closed due to the loss of power; Therefore, office staff, including customer service, will not be available. GFL appreciates your patience as we work through this together and are committed to the safest collection, transportation, and disposal of your solid waste and processing of your recyclables.

Sincerely,
